how we can help
Counseling Services
Like you, your journey is unique.
Compassionate Roots was created in the belief that therapy should be compassion-led — and that we derive peace, connection, and mindfulness through nature. This philosophy is exactly what guides our various offerings and what we’re excited to share with you in your therapy journey, as well.
More About
Nature-Based Therapy
Nature-based therapy (also known as eco-therapy) is rooted in the belief that when we slow down, move away from the daily overwhelm, and allow our minds and bodies to reconnect with nature, we are able to better let go of stress and anxiety-driven thoughts, and instead, clear our minds and focus on presence and connection with ourselves and the world around us.
Intentional time spent in nature is scientifically proven to:
Reduce stress
Improve cognitive abilities
Lower anxiety
Improve blood pressure
Lower heart rate
Increase confidence and self-esteem
Improve feelings of loneliness
Improve mood
A few examples of nature-based therapy include gardening, outdoor sessions, walk and talk sessions, arts and crafts, puzzles, nature art opportunities, forest bathing, group sessions, and more.
We make it a priority to treat you as an individual — not you as a specific struggle or disorder.
Thus, this isn’t a fully comprehensive list, but rather, a brief look into what many clients come to us for here at Compassionate Roots.

From our clients
“I have continued to see her monthly and we have worked through issues that I didn’t realize were holding me back.
I started seeing Mary after losing my beloved pet, Steeler. She helped me process the grief I was experiencing. I have continued to see her monthly and we have worked through issues that I didn't realize were holding me back. I highly recommend Mary. She is compassionate and understanding and extremely knowledgeable.

“My daughter has been working with Allison for over a year…”
My daughter has been working with Allison for over a year to work through some anxious thoughts, and we’ve been tremendously pleased with her progress. She truly looks forward to her appointments and I’m thankful for the close bond she has made with Allison.

Good Faith Estimate
As of January 1, 2022, legislation went into effect for all healthcare providers under the “No Surprises Act”, outlining requirements for state-licensed or certified healthcare providers to provide a “Good Faith Estimate” (GFE) of charges to every new and continuing client who is either uninsured or isn’t planning to submit a claim to their insurance for the services they’re seeking/receiving.
The “No Surprises Act” is designed to provide transparency to clients regarding their medical expenses and to protect them from any unexpected or surprise costs related. This regulation allows clients to better understand the total cost of services before agreeing to receive them.
Duration and length of time in therapy will vary based on a client’s individual need, desire for services, and treatment plan. Our estimate of cost will be provided as if a client were seen on a weekly basis for one year to ensure full transparency. Clients will receive a GFE with their intake paperwork, prior to their first appointment.
The GFE is in no way an endorsement of a specific timeline for treatment as the number of therapy sessions will look different for everyone. Please see our Practice Policy for additional information around additional costs that could arise during your therapeutic journey with us.
