Compassionate Roots Indiana Therapist Mary Ridley

Waitlist for new clients

Mary Ridley, LCSW | Therapist & Founder

From a young age, Mary has been fascinated by human behavior and attributes her interest in psychology and sociology to her father. He would humanize conditions such as homelessness and addiction, while teaching Mary to recognize the lifestyle and biological factors that contribute to behavior, rather than see labels and judgment.

This mindset has always helped Mary to see people as intricate beings that are a product of their experiences and genetics, but also that with compassion and support, they can change and grow into healthier versions of themselves.

Mary is a proud family member of several members of the LGBTQ community and a vocal advocate for normalizing mental health care needs and treatment.

  • Mary was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago and currently resides in Noblesville with her husband and children. They have 3 dogs, 2 cats, and 7 frogs.

She received a bachelor's in criminal justice and psychology in 2009 and a masters of clinical social work in 2011. She has worked in child welfare, drug and alcohol deferral programs, juvenile probation, and extensively in emergency departments completing safety assessments for individuals with serious mental illness. She has worked at a domestic violence shelter, cared for those with developmental disabilities and worked with clients who have experienced trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, OCD, and other mental health needs.

As a person, Mary enjoys gardening, houseplants, hiking, traveling and anything that involves animals. She is actively involved in animal rescue and has a soft spot for fostering hospice dogs. She's also a sucker for true crime, candles, any shop that sells crystals and carbohydrates.

    Introvert or Extrovert
”Definitely an Introvert. I love connecting with my clients, but have a strong appreciation for the art of silence.”

    Favorite Food
”Can I say everything? I love food, especially trying out new restaurants or cafés.”

    Superpower
”Hmmm, this one is tough. It would be cool to pause time. That way I could take a four hour nap without any guilt.”

    Awkward Trait
”Oh… everything. I'm as awkward as they come. That's why I try my best to assure future client's not to be nervous before a session. I'll be sure to break the ice by accidentally knocking over my coffee or something similar. Speaking of awkward, I love when a client drops their first F Bomb in a session, now that's when things get real!”

    Why are you a therapist?
”Because life is hard and so many people feel alone, hurt and misunderstood. If I can help one person, it brightens my whole day.

My clients are hands-down the coolest people I know. I see such an assortment of individuals and they have all taught me so much. My clients give me hope for this world because of the kindness I see in their hearts. It is a true honor to sit with someone and hold space for them as they grow as a person and heal internally. This is the best job in the world for me. I can't think of a better career than helping someone to recognize how truly amazing they are.

Oh and diversity — I thrive on meeting unique people. Therapy is a safe place for someone to fly their freak flag and I get to be there with them waving it high!”

Having grown up somewhat nomadic, moving around frequently as a child, she quickly learned how to adapt to new environments. The opportunity to live and connect with various cultures and communities along the way led her to conclude she was meant to work in a helping field allowing her to be present in a meaningful, lasting way.

First and foremost, our business operates with compassion in all that we do — hence why it’s in our name.

To us, compassion means having respect and understanding for others’ individual needs, behaviors, and circumstances.

Her life motto came from their view on life: if you can help someone that needs it, you should! Thanks to this motto she adopted at a young age, a transition into the professional world of helping others was a natural path for Erin. Her passion for supporting others and allowing people to just be themselves free of judgment or ridicule is evident both in and outside of her work at Compassionate Roots.

Erin was born and raised on the West side of Indianapolis. She now resides in Greenwood with her husband and two cats. Erin and her husband are visited frequently by their adult children.

    Favorite Food
”Pizza and sushi, but definitely not together.”

    Superpower
”It would be awesome to be able to eat whatever I wanted without health consequences; I just love candy! I’m also a sucker for cupcakes. Speaking of suckers, if you give me a bag of candy, I will absolutely eat the whole thing by myself.”

    Awkward Trait
”Sarcasm; I will use it in every setting, any time, anywhere.”

    Why are you a Therapist?
”It may seem a bit cliche to say so, but I really do find a sense of purpose and value in helping people. As a therapist, my most important accomplishment will always be walking beside someone as they reach their goals and find peace, whatever that means for them. Every day, I have the opportunity to help someone feel better, find their peace, find happiness, or live a better life. How cool is that??”

Compassionate Roots Indiana Therapist Aryana Moss

Accepting new clients - virtual only

Aryana Moss, LSW | Therapist

Aryana’s passion for helping clients prosper is at the forefront of her work as a therapist. She has worked with individuals dealing with various problems surrounding anxiety, depression, racial identity, grief, incarceration, self-esteem, substance use, and life transitions. A goal of hers is to continue to advocate for mental health in the Black community as the concept of mental health and therapy continues to be stigmatized.  She also has experience working with individuals with addiction and desires to deconstruct the stigma surrounding those who struggle with addiction. She has worked in recovery homes providing therapy to those recovering from addiction as well as in a prison setting providing therapy for those incarcerated.

Aryana does not accept insurance at this time.

  • Aryana was born and raised in Indiana and currently resides in Noblesville with her sassy and lovable cat, Yvonne.

Aryana first recognized her passion for helping others when her brother’s behavioral therapist came over for the first time. Her younger brother has Down syndrome, and Aryana developed this intense desire to learn anything his therapist was willing to teach her with the goal to help her brother in any way possible. This experience ignited a passion within Aryana.

While she initially pursued a career in special education, after one semester at Purdue, she switched her major to human services; this shift inspired a new passion in her and led her to be the compassionate, culturally-informed therapist that she is today.

Aryana received her bachelor’s degree in Human Services from Purdue University in 2019. In 2021, she obtained her Master’s in Social Work from Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis with a concentration in mental health and addictions. During her time in graduate school, Aryana had an internship at Marion County Jail which ignited her passion to advocate for those in the criminal justice system.

In her free time, Aryana enjoys indulging in delicious food and doing some spontaneous shopping. A delectable steak taco and a good bargain on the ever-evolving “thing” that she saw while scrolling will make Aryana jump for joy (in the most literal sense.) She also enjoys taking nature walks, adding to her book collection of books that she has yet to read, and spending time with those that she loves.

    Introvert or Extrovert
”I would say I am an introverted extrovert. When I was younger, I was an extrovert and did not value alone time but now I cherish my alone time as a way to decompress and check in with myself.”

    Favorite Food
”Most DEFINITELY authentic steak tacos! My heart is so full when I eat some good tacos. Also, I love some chicken wings — extra crispy with extra extra ranch, please.”

    Superpower
”I would be able to become invisible whenever I wanted!”

    Awkward Trait
”I am the type of awkward where someone would say, “of course she would say that/of course she would do something like that.” Think of the most awkward encounter that you have been in. Now, double that awkward level and that is about how awkward I can be in the most random situations! One positive outcome from this is that awkward situations do not make me uncomfortable because it is a part of my everyday life.”

    Why are you a therapist?
”I am a therapist because I am a lover of people and seeing them prosper. Therapy can provide a safe space for individuals to be vulnerable and discover their true selves. It feels like being wrapped in a warm blanket while drinking hot chocolate whenever I get to see a client’s growth and progress over the course of working together. My clients are amazing and deserve the world. I am grateful that being a therapist is my calling and I get to see incredible people do amazing things each day!”

La’Shea has developed a passion for meeting people where they are and helping them become their best self.

”I believe I am more of an extrovert because I love people, but I love a balance of having time to myself, as well.”

    Favorite Food

    Why are you a therapist?
”When I am having one of those days, where it’s difficult to find the light in anything, I have a few people on speed dial. I understand the value of having someone you can trust, speak freely with, and receive no judgment. Ram Dass, a favorite author of mine, once said, ‘We are all just walking each other home.’ This is open for interpretation, ‘home’ can hold a different meaning for all of us, but I like to believe that we are here to help each other. Help each other find what makes us feel whole. And I believe therapy is exactly that. I’m here to walk alongside you, and guide you home, to wholeness, whatever that may be. “

    Introvert or Extrovert
”I would say I am a little of both. When I first meet people I am very introverted and take everything in. I also enjoy recharging alone and enjoy quiet time. If I am out with friends people may think I am an extrovert.”

    Favorite Food
”My favorite food is chicken. I can probably provide you with the top 5 restaurants with the best chicken tenders. My family always knows what I am going to eat at a restaurant.”

    Superpower
”This is a hard one. I think I would enjoy being able to move fast. This way I could get all the housework done quickly and be able to relax.”

    Awkward Trait
”I may be in a conversation with someone and may say something very random that is in my head. Another awkward thing about me is I don’t like pop. I never have.“

    Why are you a therapist?
”This world is hard and I don’t think anyone should have to do it alone. Sometimes we just need someone to walk alongside us that is not our family or friends. We all deserve help when we need it.”

Compassionate Roots Indiana Therapist Stacey Matelic

Waitlist for new clients - virtual only

Stacey Matelic, LCSW | Therapist

Stacey is driven by her desire to understand the world and people around her. She loves nothing more than to listen to others’ stories and help them find clarity around how their journey has impacted who they are today — and how they can move forward from there with confidence.

Stacey works with teens and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, stress, relationship issues, and trauma among other mental health conditions. She accepts Anthem BCBS, United Healthcare, UMR, and Optum health plans.

  • Born in southern Indiana, Stacey currently resides on the west side of Indianapolis with her husband, son, daughter, and dog Roxy; she also has a son in college.

Stacey received her bachelors in social work at Indiana State in 1999. She then moved to Indianapolis and worked in community mental health for several years in a partial hospitalization program and as a case manager assisting clients in a variety of settings.

In 2002, Stacey went back to school to gain her masters in social work at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis. At this time, she had experiences through practicum work in a school setting working with at-risk high school students, in domestic violence shelters assisting with safety planning, and within an acute mental health inpatient unit at a hospital. She also worked at an agency as an individual counselor, facilitated group work, and worked as a behavior consultant with children and adults. Through these experiences, she has worked with clients who have developmental and intellectual challenges, including families with children.

Stacey finds it important to work on an individual’s mindset and assist them to reach goals they may not see possible themselves. She values the strength perspective and helps her clients identify and use their own strengths to manage stressors that impact their lives on a daily basis.

Stacey recognized her passion for working with others at an early age. She pursued a psychology course in high school, which led to her volunteering in the special education classroom; after a psychology class field trip to a mental health facility, she knew she found her path.

In her free time, Stacey enjoys time with her husband as they watch their children play volleyball, soccer, and basketball. She loves her house plants, exercise, walking her dog, concerts, and binging a good series on Netflix.

    Introvert or Extrovert
”I appear to be an extrovert in social settings as I am quite a talker around my close friends, but I do love my downtime at home with my people. At work, I try to sit back and listen so I may come off more as an introvert.”

    Favorite Food
”Hands down, anything Mexican. I will take a bowl of cheese or salsa and tortilla chips any day over a piece of cake.”

    Superpower
”I would love to control the weather. I need sunshine for my mental health but I also like a good rainy day as my excuse to lay on the couch for hours.”

    Awkward Trait
”Since turning 40 my eyes have started to fail me and I now require readers. I joke that I am close to needing a string for them as I am constantly retracing my steps to find where I left them or they may be found on top of my head as I ‘m looking for them…haha!“

    Why are you a therapist?
”The variety of people I have been able to work with and learn from throughout my years in the field is one of the best experiences in my life and it’s my job. I love hearing people’s stories, what they have been through, where they have lived, and anything that has played a role in making each person their unique self. As I mentioned earlier, identifying each person’s strengths is important as many of us struggle to compliment ourselves and truly see how strong we are. It fills my bucket to know I have helped someone feel better about themselves on any given day. The world is not a kind place many days and if I can soften that up for someone, then that brings me joy.”
